ABOUT THE PRINTS:

*All images are world class quality, true photographic process prints (Silver Halide) and never "ink jet" pigment prints.

*All images are back mounted to Di-bond (two .012" aluminum sheets with a solid polyethylene core) with no "orange peel" effect. This advanced mounting technique secures the print and prevents any future warping.

*All images are face mounted to museum quality UV protected acrylic to encapsulate, protect and archive the image for countless years to come.

*There may be a required waiting period due to the unusual high standards of craftsmanship and the nature of printing and scrutinizing individual photographs.

*Photographs which are currently in our inventory will be shipped and delivered in 3-6 weeks. Images not in inventory (must be overseen by Mark Metternich) may take 4-8 weeks to be shipped and delivered.

*Limited Edition Framed Prints are shipped anywhere in the world. Shipping may take longer depending on the country.

FUJI FLEX SILVER HALIDE:

For the ultimate in quality and archival permanency we exclusively use Fujiflex Professional Crystal Archive Silver Halide photographic paper ("the Ilfochrome of the future"). It is the absolute premium high gloss printing surface in the world. Many photographers will not use this paper because of its cost. This superior photo paper boasts the most vivid colors, best print permanence, and best surface finish of any premium photo medium. This means that you get the highest gloss, smoothest surface, extended contrast, cleanest color, superior blacks, and whiter whites. Even without standard UV protection, Fujiflex prints are rated at over 40 years. With proper care, and UV protection (Museum 98% UV protected acrylic) you can be ensured that your Limited Edition print will stay outstanding for many generations to come. Many photographers claim "top quality gallery prints" yet few deliver the best materials in the industry.

Workshops, Lessons and Professional Training... :
PHOTOGRAPHY LESSONS, PHOTOSHOP, LIGHTROOM AND ADOBE CAMERA RAW HOURLY TRAINING:
Whether a beginner, intermediate, or advanced photographer, you can take your photography to the next level with professional Photography, Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Lightroom hourly training! Private tutoring is booked at $50 an hour and is available year round. Package deals are available (current package deal is $45 an hour for 5 sessions). Group training and discounts are available. Mini workshops (hands on training) is also available in the local area (Las Vegas) booked at $45 an hour for a minimum of 3 hours. Current and past client references are available.

PRIVATE "IN THE FIELD" WORKSHOPS:
Private workshops are the fastest track to learning, and a wonderful investment for the passionate photographer. Intensive, "one on one" private workshops are booked at $500 a day ($350 the second day and $250 the 3rd and following days), year round at countless awesome scenic locations. Significant discounts on small groups (2-4) are available (group up and share the cost; additional people pay half off the daily rates). Prices may vary depending on location and travel expenses. PRIVATE WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Fun, exciting, and comprehensive 8 to 16 hour days (however much fun we can handle!) will, for beginners to professionals, include through discussion and step by step instruction to help the client maximize their potential for obtaining fantastic landscape/nature photos in a variety of the most awesome shooting locations in the US and Canada. As much or as little instruction will be given based on the clients needs (sometimes I shoot side by side my client(s) and other times I spend the entire time helping my clients get their shot). Training will cover everything necessary, such as DSLR camera functions, filters, metering, compositional training, hyper-focal distance, the study of light, bracketing, long exposure techniques, HDR (High Dynamic Range - for cityscape) in the field techniques, scouting skills, location advice, critical digital darkroom skills (Adobe Camera Raw, Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Lightroom) marketing, fine art master print making... Travel schedules are customizable based on client’s specific needs and desires. I cater to your needs. Some favorite places of expertise are (but not limited to):

Photo Tips :

PHOTO TIPS:

I often get asked for photographic tips. I would not presume to tell anyone how to take a photo, yet there are some tips that have helped me, tremendously, along the way and I would like to share some of them for the benefit of those seeking to improve their own personal journey in photography.

PASSION:

I can not stress passion enough! Passion is the wellspring of life. If searched out and tapped into, it has the potential to catapult us forward and keep us steadfast in tough times. Don't exploit or compromise your passion. Photograph whatever it is in life that inspires you the most. It is critical to stay true to, and stay in touch with our heart. I believe if we stay focused on what we are most passionate about, whatever it may be, eventually we will see the results we are after. There have been countless insurmountably difficult times on this journey where I was tempted to give up, but it has been passion that has kept me moving forward. It can do the same for you.

PATIENCE:

We are in such a hurry in this world. Often we want what we want and we want it now! I'm certainly no different. But after some time of pursuing this craft I began to realize that patience, and often patience in abundance would be critical if I was to be successful at capturing very rare and fleeting moments out in the awesome beauty of creation. As an example of patience, the Limited Edition print entitled "Rainbow Tree of Life" (Main Landscape Gallery) took a ridiculous 360 sunrises and sunsets to finally capture (700+ failed attempts!). The scene was close to my home and every morning, and evening for a year I went to the location to wait for that special moment of truly amazing light. Finally to my delight, I captured what I consider a truly awesome image. The development of patience is critical in this work.

PROGRAMMING:

One of the greatest tips I know for someone who is seriously trying to move ahead in their skills in photography is to search out and view inspiring top class imagery (at book stores, libraries, internet photography forums, galleries...) almost every day of their life (at least until they have reached the level they are after). I believe in this being a pleasurable discipline in which someone commits time (like maybe a hour a day) almost every day. Not only will this seriously stoke ones passion for their craft, but it will also go a long way toward increasing the eye's ability to see the potential of a scene and the compositions therein. The inspiration of other people’s work has contributed massively to what I see out in the field. I believe this to be a critical tip, most often under utilized.

PURPOSE:

God has given everyone something they can do, that no one else can do, and He has left no one out! Purpose is like a treasure that has to be diligently searched for and dug out. On this journey, at the right time in my life, I came across a simple but profound prayer and question: "God, what are the deepest desires you have put in my heart, to get done in this world"? This has been a defining question in my heart and life, which has led me to my current path. Everyone was created unique with a very specific and special place, purpose and contribution for this life and world. There is certainly power in the principal of personal vision (many people have that) but more uniquely, much more power in God's personal vision for our lives. Why do you exist? If you ask people, "Why do you exist?" most cannot tell you. You can know why you exist and you can experience a remarkable life in light of that knowledge! You can find and live your purpose!

The Photographs (Development and Optimization) : THE PHOTOGRAPHS:

Wonderful photos always originate from moments of rare and wonderful light, never a computer.

Only the most pioneering and cutting edge capture, development and print processes are used in the Towards The Light Photography collection. Images are developed, interpreted and optimized in the digital darkroom using an ultra strict code of conduct.

Though we routinely render our images within the general parameters of popular vivid/contrasty slide films that have been used for decades in landscape photography (such as the beloved Fuji-chrome Velvia) as well as with some traditional darkroom-like techniques (fine tuning by subtle Dodging, Burning, Contrast Masking...) we do not consider this norm either "manipulation" or "Photo-shopping" (faking photos) often ambiguous terms used to over-simplistically discount photography.

With the exception of a rare *noted artistic liberty (disclosed under the image preview) the unusual moments of "wild light" captured in the collection are not "Photo-shopped" in any way.

Color lens filters are never used.
